UFC Fight Night 19 Results and Comparison to my picks

Wow!!! That’s the only thing that I can think of when I think about the fights that occured last night. After seeing those fights, you could just tell that Dana White was going to have problems in choosing the “Fight of the Night” winners. There was not one minute that I wasn’t on the edge of my seat nearly spilling my drink in excitement. It truely was exciting to see these younger and more hungry guys go at it so hard. And after these fighters fought these back and forth fights, each fighter raised the other fighters hands as they embraced knowing that it would all be up hill from this moment on. So lets get to what happened………..

1st Fight of Night: Nate “The Rock” Quarry vs “Crazy” Tim Credeur – This fight started with these two dudes just going at with the strikes with crazy Tim getting the better of the exchange, even rocking the rock Quarry followed by a near rear naked choke. The second round continued with these two duking it out with Credeur again getting the better of the exchange until that powerful right hand of Quarry connected and rocked Credeur, taking him to the ground. On the ground it was clear that Quarry won the round do to ground control and some ground and pound that wasn’t exactly effective. In the 3rd Credeur again is winning in the stand up until taken down a couple of times and showed Quarry was better on the ground. This fight ended up the most exciting fight of the night and Dana White would agree because they both recieved $30,000 for “Fight of the Night” honors.

Result: Nate Quarry via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-28)

2nd Fight of Night: Carlos “Natrual Born Killer” Condit vs Jake Ellenberger – Another fight that could have been fight of the night, this fight did not dissapoint. In the first round, Ellenberger was looking very good with his timing and his striking and he eventually timed Condit’s kick, he caught it and punched him down. Condit got back to his feet and ended up getting taken down by Ellenberger again. Condit looked bad in the first. A very back and forth second, it was hard to say who won it but I would have to say Condit comes back to take the second. The 3rd round was filled with ground action with Condit with the better ground and pound ultimately sealing the win. A very close win but a win at that.

Result: Carlos “Natural Born Killer” Condit via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

Co Main Event: Gray “The Bully” Maynard vs Roger “El Matador” Huerta – Another great fight that even ended up confusing the judges. The Bully obviously game to this fight with a great strategy with his hands. The 1st round was very exciting and close but I’d give the first to the Bully. In the 2nd round, it was a lot like the first except for the fact that Huerta came out tougher than in the first but The Bully still ended up taking the round with landing shots that would have KOed the average person. The 3rd round showed all MMA fans the heart of a warrior in Roger Huerta because he was caught in a viscious kimura that anyone would have tapped to. This was nasty looking with Huertas shoulder pointing all the way out. How did he not tap???? That was crazy!!! I don’t know what fight one of these judges were watching but…….

Result: Gray “The Bully” Maynard via SPLIT??? decision (28-29, 30-27, 30-27)

My Pick: Gray “The Bully” Maynard via unanimous decision

Main Event: Nate Diaz vs Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guilard – This fight was intense with both men getting into a staredown that looked like they couldn’t wait for the bell. And let me tell you, both men came out swinging with Guillard getting the better of the trades. Guillard had a great strategy as far as when Diaz got him down, he would back up against the cage to help him get up easier and he did, twice in the 1st. The first had to go to Guillard. In the second, Diaz was able to keep him on the ground long enough to secure a motified guillotine.

Result: Nick Diaz via submission (via guillotine at 2:13 of round 2)

My Pick: Nick Diaz via submission

I went two for two in these fights. The reason I didn’t predict the other fights is simply because I wasn’t too familiar with the other fighters which would mean my picks would be bias. This website is not about the bull so I just couldn’t do such a thing. But let me tell you something, after this night, I am very familiar with all these fighters and I will be watching thier careers. UFC 103 is this saturday so check out my picks and be sure to watch the fights!
