Strikeforce Heavyweight Champ decides to compete in K-1

Posted in Alistair Overeem is no true champ, Strikeforce on September 1, 2009 by thatmmaguy

Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion Alistair Overeem has not defended his title since 2007 when he defeated veteren MMA fighter Paul Buentello. This is why I love the exclusive UFC contract because since his defending of the title, he has fought 4 times in 2 different organizations since then. Now Alistair is holding off his defending the Strikeforce Heavyweight belt even longer because he has decided to compete in K-1’s ( a kickboxing promotion) Grand Prix which is tournament based.

WHAT THE HELL STRIKEFORCE??? It seems like every top talent champion in Strikeforce can get away with winning the championship and then, just doing whatever they may feel like. For another example besides Alistair Overeem, take a look at Cung Le. Cung Le won his Strikeforce middleweight championship belt in march of 2008 and hasn’t defended since because of his new movie career where he will play the part of Marshall Law in the upcoming Tekken film. The ultimate result of Cung Le not being able to defend his title has been that Scott Coker ( Strikeforce CEO) has made an interim middleweight championship ( much like when the UFC was in contractual dispute with then heavyweight champion Randy Couture) in which the champion will be decided after Jason Mayhem Miller and Jake Shields go at it. Strikeforce will be in trouble very quickly if crap like this continues to occur.

The UFC as a brand has been much better with making sure thier fighters fight when they’re supposed to and don’t get caught using banned substances. I can guarantee that if Strikeforce continues just letting their fighters do whatever they do than the UFC will eat them, just like they did to Pride and Elite XC.

Get your shit together Strikeforce or you will never be the Burger King to the UFC’s McDonalds

Jason Mayhem Miller doing his favorite win pose

Standing in at 6 foot 1, 185 pounds, Jason Mayhem Miller is not that big but I do guarantee that this man will beat your bully’s ass. In the streets (when seeing a “Mayhem Monkey” being bullied) or on his hit MTV show Bully Beatdown.

Known for his kick ass colorful personality, awesome flashy entrances and never give up attitude, MTV producers knew that Mayhem would be the perfect host. And he ended up being so when his show became the number one viewed show on MTV.

Now on the verge of his 2nd season of Bully Beatdown, this will not be Mayhems only pressure for the end of the year as Mayhem will be fighting top Middleweight contender Jake Shields for the Middleweight Interim Championship of Strikeforce.

Jake Shields has something in common with Mr. Mayhem Miller and that is thier long records in MMA. Mayhem with a record of 22-6 and Shields with a record of 23-4. But wait….. thats not all they have in common. Jake Shields likes to beat up bullys aswell and this is obvious considering Jake has been on both seasons of Bully Beatdown to date. What a twist? I would have thought Mayhem would have wanted to fight someone more like a bully, like maybe Mr. Potsmoker Nick Diaz.

But who cares about Mayhem Miller’s MTV show when it comes to MMA. I don’t. I care about the best fighting the best and Strikeforce is not messing around here. This will be one hell of a fight and I have a lot of respect for both fighters as both fighters are on my top ten but as much as it pains me to say……….

I’ve got Jake Shields on this one

Fedor Emelianenko will be fighting Brett Rogers this fall

Brett Rogers calls Kimbo Slices performance Garbage
Brett Rogers calls Kimbo Slices performance “Garbage”

Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker announced this morning that the number one ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko would be fighting Brett “The Grim” Rogers in the fall. The date although has yet to have been announced and we can most likely agree that it is because they want to time the fight so that they are not up against the Brock Lesnar/ Shane Carwin fight but we will see about that with the more we hear about it. Until then……..

Let’s take a little look at Emelianenko’s next opponent Brett “The Grim” Rogers. This man although having been undefeated in all of his 8 fights, was not well recognized in Elite XC due to Kimbo Slice. This all changed after Kimbo Slice won a controversial ref stoppage over UK fighter James Thompson. MMA fans started to recognize Brett Rogers after Rogers (fighting on the same card that night as Slice) was asked by a reporter what he thought about the fight with Rogers replying that he though Kimbo Slices “game” was “garbage”. Kimbo angered by this, stood up from his chair and said “that sounds like a challenge, big dog” (as seen in the picture above). This altercation ended quickly with Strikeforce CEO Scott Coker getting in between and Rogers saying “it is what it is, and that was garbage”. MMA fans loved this since a lot felt Slice was over his head in this fighting game and Brett Rogers became known.
Brett Rogers became even more known after his 22 second bout with former UFC champion Andrei Arlovski ended with an impressive foreward KO. As a matter of fact, he KO’ed Arlovski faster than Fedor did. Brett Rogers if you look at my top ten , he is there but the question is…….. Can he beat Fedor Emelianenko?
