UFC 102 fighters salaries released

Posted in UFC 102 Salaries Released on August 31, 2009 by thatmmaguy

I’m pretty sure that the way the salaries work is determined by which salary option the fighters themself pick. For example, some fighters may choose a guaranteed amount with out a win bonus and others may choose a lesser guaranteed amount with the option of ultimately making more money with a win bonus. An example of this would be the main card fight between Randy Couture and Minotauro Nogueira. Minotauro recieved $400,00 plus a win bonus of $150,000 making that a total of $550,000. Randy obviously taking the lesser guaranteed amount and with his lose only recieved $250,000. If Randy were to win although, he would have recieved $750,000. Not a very good idea for a 45 year old man if you ask me but he’s loaded anyway. Here are the salaries…….

– Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira ($400,000 plus $150,000 win bonus) def Randy Couture ( $250,000)

– Thiago Silva ( $58,000 plus $29,000 win bonus) def Keith Jardine ( $55,000)

– Jake Rosholt ( $26,000 plus $13,000 win bonus) def Chris Leben ( $30,000)

– Nate Marquardt ( $80,000 plus $40,000 win bonus) def Damian Maia ( $28,000)

– Brandon Vera ( $70,000 plus $35,000 win bonus) def Krzystof Soszynski ($8,000)

– Aaron Simpson ( $18,000 plus $9,000 win bonus) def Ed Herman ($24,000)

– Gabriel Gonzaga ( $120,000 plus $60,000 win bonus) def Chris Tuchscherer ($10,000)

– Mike Russow ( $20,000 plus $10,000 win bonus) def Justin McCully ($15,000)

– Todd Duffee ( $10,000 plus $5,000 win bonus) def Tim Hague ( $7,000)

– Mark Munoz ( $24,000 plus $12,000 win bonus) def Nick Catone ( $5,000)

– Evan Dunham ( $14,000 plus $7,000 win bonus) def Marcus Aurelio ( $13,000)

There you have it. Stay tuned for the salaries of UFC 103.

Why is a fighter like Wanderlei Silva getting facial reconstructive surgery?!? I guess even the toughest guys are sensitive about how they look. If I were him, I would have started his new look with fixing his ears. Wandy looks half as mean now. Why he didn’t wait til after his fight career, I don’t know but for his sake, he needs to watch out for those strikes to the face or we might just get the old Axe Murderer again.

Brock Lesnars sparring partner gets beat down in UFC debut

Posted in Chris Tuchscherer gets beat down on August 30, 2009 by thatmmaguy
Chris Tuchscerer (17-2)

Chris Tuchscerer (17-2)

Big man and sparring partner to UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar, Chris Tuchscherer seemed as if he could have the potential to become a rising star in the UFC. That was until he got in the ring with the big Brazilian Gabriel Gonzaga.

Gonzaga who was previously knocked out in the first round by a man (Shane Carwin) with a similar wrestling backround as Tuchscherer, decided that on this night that he would be the one doing the knocking out. 2:27 into the round the big Brazilian Gonzaga TKO’d Brock Lesnars main sparring partner.

This is interesting because we must look at the bigger picture here and that bigger picture is Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin. Let’s look at the history a little bit.

Carwin def Gonzaga via first round KO

Gonzaga def Tuchscherer (Brock Lesnars main sparring partner) via first round TKO

Georges St Pierre has always said that he tries to always make his training a lot harder than his fight which makes a lot of sense right? If such a great champion as GSP says this, then it must be true. It’s GSP! Anyway, with that being said and Chris Tuchscherer being Brock Lesnars main sparring partner, where does that leave Brock when he fights a man his size with more KO power? We will see at 106.

UFC 102 Recap

Posted in UFC 102 Results on August 30, 2009 by thatmmaguy

UFC 102 was a a great event that had it’s upset personally for me. Even though I was only 3/5 with my predictions this event, something else happened at UFC 102 that still has me shocked. Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague ( my fellow Canadian) got knocked out by Todd Duffee in 7 seconds. This 7 second KO is now the fastest KO in the UFC history. CURSE WORD! But that’s alright I guess because he has one more fight left on his contract to prove himself and he wasn’t even on the main card. So lets get to the main card and see where I predicted right and where I predicted wrong.

1st Fight: Brandon “The Truth” Vera vs Krzysztof “The Polish Experiment” Soszynski – This fight was mostly an all out striking battle with The Truth displaying better striking. The Polish experiment got a take down late into the first round but that round still went to Vera. The second round was more striking with Vera getting a take down near the end of the round. Vera then secured his victory in the third round with his striking.

My Prediction: Brandon Vera by decision

Result: Brandon Vera wins by decision

2nd Fight: Damian Maia vs Nate “The Great” Marquardt

“He looks like he is going to try to stand with him”. “Don’t try and stand with him”. “TAKE HIM DOWN!!!”. “Oh shit.” “Do you see what happened?” “You got knocked out because you tried to stand with him”. These were my words during the 21 seconds leading up to the KO of Damian Maia. Damian Maia, a world class Jiu Jitsu expert tried to stand with The Great Nate Marquardt. Damn!

My Pick: Damian Maia via Submission

Result: Nate Marquartd wins via KO

3rd Fight: Jake Rosholt vs Chris “The Crippler” Leben

With back and foreward action the entire time, it was obvious that Jake Rosholt had been pulling in the points in both the 1st and 2nd. Jake Rosholt showing dominance and great top control in the 3rd attemps an arm triangle choke on Leben and doesn’t get it. The he attemps again for the arm triangle choke and he gets it and chokes out Chris Leben. Leben tapped twice but the ref was too late to stop it and Leben passed out.

My Pick: Jake Rosholt via decision

Result: Jake Rosholt wins via Submission

4th Fight: “The Dean of Mean” Keith Jardine vs Thiago Silva

Another one of the shorter rounds on the card, this one was all about the striking until BOOM! Thiago Silva has a short night at the office, knocking out Keith Jardine at 1min 45 seconds in the round.

My Pick: Thiago Silva def Keith Jardine via TKO

Result: Thiago Silva wins via KO

Main Card Fight of The Night: Randy “The Natural” Couture vs Minotauro Nogueira

Thru out this entire fight it was clear that age was a factor for the 45 year old UFC hall of famer Randy Couture. This fight showed the true heart of a warrior with Randy Couture. Each round Randy was getting beat down but he showed his resilance in front of his home town crowd dodging submissions by the submission expert Minotauro.

My Pick: Randy Couture by decision

Result: Minotauro wins via decision

Another UFC event down and plenty more to go. 3/5 isn’t exactly 4/5 like last time but I’m still happy with it. Each of my picks were against the Vegas odds and that makes it even more gratifying. ThatMMAGuy of youtube never accepted my challenge (and even deleted my posts on his website) and it’s a good thing that he did not because I would have won. He would have had 2/5 to my 3/5. So that being said, although he did not accept my challenge to become the real ThatMMAGuy, I won the challenge and that makes me the one and only………..

For all of those MMA and UFC lovers out there who do not have a way of viewing UFC 102 tonight, have no worry, ThatMMAGuy is here. So I have decided to “Tweet” all the UFC 102 results as they happen.

UFC 102 on PPV starts tonight at 10pm EST . This will most likely just feature the Main Card but before hand I will be “Tweeting” the preliminary fights which include one of my favorites Big Canadian Man Tim Hague. You can find all my UFC 102 tweets at http://www.ThatMMAGuy.wordpress.com .

Pro Picks: Couture vs Nogueira UFC 102

Posted in Pro Picks for Couture vs Nogueira UFC 102 on August 28, 2009 by thatmmaguy

It is always interesting to see what a pro mix martial artist’s prediction of a big fight may be, and Sherdog ( http://www.sherdog.com ) has the exclusive. A total of of 40 pro mix martial artists were asked but honestly a lot of them are not well known so I will just show the opinions of those that you do know. Let’s take a look at what the pros are saying.

Travis Wiuff – “Wow, what a great fight”. “I think Randy takes it by decision”.

Pedro “The Rock” Rizzo – “1st round a lot of striking and then takedown from Couture”. “2nd round Couture gets tired with top control”. “3rd round Couture is too tired and Nogueira will submit, Nogueira by submission”.

Cung Le – “Randy by decision”.

Antonio Rogerio Nogueira ( Little Nog) – “Rodrigo (Big Nog) is very well prepared for this fight”. “Although Randy is very tough, I’ve got Rodrigo by submission”.

Travis Lutter – “I think Randy will win because of his better wrestling”.

Matt Linland – “Randy fighting in Oregon is going to be great”. “I would bet on Randy on this one”.

Jeff Monson – “Couture by decision”.

Total picks out of 40 on Sherdog ( http://www.sherdog.com ) Pro picks: Couture – 24, Nogueira – 14, Undecided 2

I know that I mostly showed the Couture Pro Picks but like I had said before, I’m only showing the picks of those pros that you will recognize. Turns out all but one say Couture like I had except for Nogueiras twin and smaller brother “Little Nog”.

Rampage Jackson to play B.A. Baracus in upcoming A-Team Film

Posted in Rampage Jackson to play B.A. Baracus in upcoming A-Team film on August 28, 2009 by thatmmaguy
Quinton Rampage Jackson

Quinton Rampage Jackson

I can see some Mr.T in UFC’s top contending lightheavyweight Quinton Rampage Jackson also simply known as Rampage. Rampage Jackson most notably known for his fights in Japan and also known for his vicious KO of UFC superstar Chuck Liddell, in my mind is the perfect pick to play the Mr. T. He have a deep scratchy voice and also as seen in the ring, he does “pity the fool”. Most importantly he kind of looks like Mr. T. Try to just picture this guy with a Mr.T mohawk and Indian style feather ear-ring thingies.

Other’s acting in the movie havn’t exactly been released with the exception of Bradley Cooper (The Hangover) will be playing the role of Templeton Peck. Liam Neeson has also been in negotiations to play the role of Hannibal Smith. The movie is set for release in June of 2010
